Après les deux claques qu’on s’est prises depuis notre arrivée aux Fiji (la tempête à l’arrivée et Cast Away island), on commence a comprendre que la navigation ici c’est pas de tout repos…

On a d’ailleurs la confirmation de notre ressenti lorsqu’on tombe sur le blog d’un couple de cruisers qui mettent en garde exactement contre ce genre de situation. Eh bien, on l’aura appris à la dure 😅.

À partir de ce moment-là, on commence à prendre encore plus au sérieux la météo pour guetter les fenêtres idéales pour effectuer les divers passages qui nous attendent.

Le blog mentionne que la météo est assez cyclique et que ce genre de bonne fenêtre vient à peu près une fois par semaine. Et effectivement, en étudiant les prévisions, on constate que pour aller dans l’archipel des Yasawas, notre prochaine opportunité est dans environ 6 jours (si on connaissait les ancrages, on aurait pu traverser plus tôt mais on préfère se la jouer safe pour éviter une situation Cast Away island 😅). Au moins ça permet aussi à Charlotte de finir de fixer pour de bon l’autopilote.

Nous prenons alors un amarrage dans la jolie petite Vuda Marina. Apparemment, c’est un des lieux où les gens mettent à terre et laissent leur navire pendant leurs longues absence à l’abri des ouragans. C’est assez étrange de voir tous ces bateaux posés dans des trous.

Pendant ce temps, nous prenons notre mal en patience et allons visiter un peu les environs et la petite ville portuaire de Lautoka. Là, nous découvrons un cinéma avec à l’affiche quelques gros blockbusters américains mais aussi des productions indiennes (il y a une grosse population d’origine indienne aux Fiji). C’est parti, un de ces soirs on va se faire un Bollywood 😁.

N’en connaissant aucun, nous choisissons au hasard Gadar 2 qui s’avère être un film à peine propagandiste se passant pendant la guerre indo-pakistani des années 70. Comme à s’y attendre, l’histoire et la réalisation sont délirantes et dans l’ensemble très fun bien que parfois étonnement violentes.

Le reste de notre temps sur place est assez monotone. On a vraiment très envie de nous mettre en route…

After the two slaps we’ve had since arriving in Fiji (the storm on arrival and Cast Away Island), we’re starting to understand that sailing here isn’t so easy…

We also have confirmation of our feelings when we come across the blog of a couple of cruisers who warn against exactly these kinds of situations. Well, we learned it the hard way 😅.

From that moment on, we begin to take the weather even more seriously to watch for the ideal windows to complete the various passages that await us.

The blog mentions that the weather is quite cyclical and that this kind of good window comes about once a week. And indeed, by studying the forecasts, we see that to go to the Yasawas archipelago, our next opportunity is in around 6 days (if we knew the anchorages, we could have crossed earlier but we prefer to play it safe to avoid a new Cast Away island situation 😅). At least it also allows Charlotte to finish fixing the autopilot for good.

We thus take a berth in the pretty little Vuda Marina. Apparently, this is one of the places where people leave their ships on land during their long absences sheltered from hurricanes. It’s quite strange to see all these boats sitting in holes on the ground.

During this time, we have to be patient and take this opportunity to go visit the surrounding area and the small port town of Lautoka. There, we discover a cinema with some big American blockbusters on display but also Indian productions (there is a large population of Indian origin in Fiji). Let’s go, one of these evenings we’re going to watch a Bollywood movie 😁.

Not knowing any of them, we choose at random Gadar 2 which turns out to be a just slightly propagandistic film set during the Indo-Pakistani war of the 70s. As expected, the story and the direction are completely crazy and overall very fun although sometimes surprisingly violent.

The rest of our time there is quite monotonous. We really want to get going…
