Parking – Anchorage Hut : 11.7km
Lors de notre première soirée de retour sur l’Île du Sud en compagnie d’Anne pour célébrer son anniversaire le 30 mai, nous avons décidé sur le moment d’aller marcher la Abel Tasman Great Walk ensemble ces prochains jours.
Ainsi, au petit matin du 1er juin, nous la retrouvons sur le parking de la fin de la marche. Comme la Walk n’est pas une boucle, nous y laissons sa voiture pour pouvoir retourner au départ et à notre voiture dans trois jours. Bien pratique !
Après plus d’une heure de route, nous pouvons enfin commencer à marcher depuis l’extrémité sud de la marche. Et tout de suite, on découvre pourquoi elle est si populaire. La piste est extrêmement bien entretenue et facile, et les plages et l’eau claire de la mer sont tout simplement magnifiques.
La marche d’aujourd’hui est assez courte donc nous arrivons à destination déjà en début d’après-midi. C’est l’occasion pour nous de profiter du beau soleil radieux en mangeant notre lunch tardif. C’est alors que nous découvrons que l’endroit est complètement envahi de Wekas qui tournent autour de nous et se faufilent entre nos jambes ou même sautent sur notre table pour tenter de voler de la nourriture. Ils sont vraiment téméraires car l’un d’eux vole même la moitié d’un biscuit que j’avais entre les mains alors que je n’y prêtais pas trop attention. Sale petit voleur ^^
Au fur et à mesure que la journée avance, de plus en plus de gens arrivent et bientôt la hutte est bien remplie surtout lorsque tout le monde prépare son souper en même temps. D’autant plus qu’il y a ce qui ressemble à toute une classe d’enfants. Espérons qu’ils ne vont pas dans la même hut que nous demain…
While we were spending our first evening back on the South Island with Anne to celebrate her birthday on the 30th of May, we decided right then and there that we’d hike the Abel Tasman Great Walk together over the next few days.
Thus, early on this morning of the 1st of June, we meet back with her in the end car-park of the track. Since the walk is not a loop, we’re leaving her car there so that we can drive back to the start and to our car in three days. Very convenient !
After more than an hour’s drive, we can finally start walking from the southern end. And right away we discover why it is so popular. The track is extremely well maintained and easy, and the beaches and the clear water of the sea are simply gorgeous.
Today’s walk is quite short so we arrive at our destination already in the early afternoon. We thus take this opportunity to enjoy the beautiful shining sun to eat our late lunch. It is then that we discover that the place is completely packed with Wekas which turn around us and sneak in between our legs or even jump on our table to try to steal some food. They really are reckless as one even steals half a biscuit I had in my hands while I wasn’t paying too much attention. Sneaky bastards ^^
As the day goes on, more and more people arrive and soon the hut feels quite full with everyone cooking their dinners at the same time. Especially since there’s what looks like a whole class of kids. Let’s hope they’re not going to the same hut as us tomorrow…
