Petite balade matinale vers Wentworth Falls sur un joli petit sentier. La cascade est belle mais pas plus extraordinaire que ça ^^. Ce qui est extraordinaire, c’est que sur notre chemin du retour on tape la causette avec un couple de kiwi et on en vient à parler travail. Ils finissent par nous donner le numéro de leur fille si des fois on cherche du travail dans une ferme. Comme quoi, ils ont désespérément besoin de main d’œuvre en NZ 😅.

Après quoi, on se met en route pour le village balnéaire de Waihi Beach pour rendre visite à quelque chose de vraiment particulier : un magasin de chocolat suisse ! Avant de quitter la Suisse, un ami nous avait transmis un article parlant d’une valaisanne ayant émigré en NZ et qui y a ouvert son magasin de chocolat appelé “Chez Moi”. On l’avait alors ajouté comme étape indispensable à visiter mais le TA passait bien trop loin de là pour qu’on puisse raisonnablement y aller pendant qu’on marchait. Mais heureusement on a maintenant une voiture alors chose promise, chose due !

On y arrive vers 12:30 et Inès, la propriétaire, est là, seule, en train de travailler sur une nouvelle fournée de pralinés. On tape alors la causette avec elle en parlant, entre autres, de Suisse, de marche et de chocolat 😁. On la quitte finalement avec un sachet de pralinés dans la poche et un selfie dans le téléphone. Ça valait la peine d’y aller 😄

On se rend ensuite vers la plage pour y faire une petite balade recommandée justement par Inès. Le chemin nous mène vers Orokawa Bay et sa magnifique plage de sable fin un peu isolée de tout car elle semble n’être accessible qu’à pied. En chemin on voit aussi un groupe de jeunes armés de planches de surf qui s’y rendent et on les regarde faire un moment sous le soleil de fin de journée avant de faire demi-tour vers la voiture.

Notre destination de ce soir : Totara Flat Campsite dans la Kauaeranga Valley.

Short morning walk to the Wentworth Falls on a nice little trail. The waterfall is beautiful but not particularly extraordinary ^^. What is extraordinary though is that on our way back we chat with a couple of kiwis and we come to talk about work. They end up giving us their daughter’s number if we ever look for work on a farm. They really are in desperate need of labour in NZ 😅

Afterwards, we set off for the seaside village of Waihi Beach to visit something really special: a Swiss chocolate shop! Before leaving Switzerland, a friend of ours sent us an article about a woman from the canton of Valais who emigrated to NZ and who opened her chocolate shop there called “Chez Moi”. We had then added it as an essential step to visit but the TA passed way too far from there for us to be able to reasonably go there while we were walking. But luckily we now have a car so no reason to skip the place !

We get there around 12:30 and Inès, the owner, is there, alone, working on a new batch of pralines. We then chat with her, amongst other things, about Switzerland, walking and chocolate 😁. We finally leave her with a bag of pralines in the pocket and a selfie in the phone. It was worth going there 😄

We then go to the beach for a short walk recommended by Inès. The path leads us to Orokawa Bay and its magnificent fine sandy beach, a little isolated from everything because it seems to be accessible only on foot. Along the way we also see a group of young people with surfboards under the arm heading there as well. We watch them surf while laying under a tree and enjoying the late afternoon sun before heading back to the car.

Our destination tonight: Totara Flat Campsite in the Kauaeranga Valley.
