Pour aujourd’hui, on s’est organisé une sortie voile sur un catamaran pour aller voir Cathedral Cove. Non seulement pour profiter du bon vent néo-zélandais mais aussi pour pouvoir tout simplement voir cette grotte ! Eh oui, encore une fois à cause des pluies diluviennes des derniers moi, le chemin d’accès pédestre menant à cette attraction est totalement détruit et Cathedral Cove est donc visible que de la mer.
On a rendez-vous à 12:00 alors on profite de faire un rapide détour avant vers un point de vue donnant sur une superbe baie. On voit quelques nuages de pluie nous passer dessus en nous lâchant une petite bruine. Pour l’instant c’est supportable mais on prie pour que ça ne soir pas pire une fois qu’on sera sur l’eau.
On se rend alors vers 12:00 sur la plage de départ. Là, on y retrouve 10 autres personnes avec qui nous serons sur le bateau. Puis finalement ce sont nos 2 skippers qui nous rejoignent pour nous embarquer sur le bateau à l’aide de petites barques pneumatiques. 2 aller-retour et on est en route !
Il n’y a pas beaucoup de vent au début mais une fois au large on peut enfin profiter de naviguer sans moteurs. Ça nous avait manqué 🥲. La croisière est très relaxe et on discute avec quelques passagers et une des skippers. Mag’ prend même la barre pendant un moment.
Puis, enfin, nous arrivons vers Cathedral Cove! Et c’est très impressionnant ! Une énorme arche sous laquelle il est en principe possible de marcher à marée basse mais pour nous, aujourd’hui, on ne la verra que de loin.
Par contre il nous est donné l’occasion de sauter un moment à l’eau pour se baigner dans la réserve aquatique dans laquelle nous nous trouvons. Mag’ décide de rester au sec car le temps est toujours couvert et un peu frais. Mais malgré ça, moi, je saute à l’eau et me voit offrir un masque et tuba en plus d’un spaghetti de piscine. Un peu de nourriture est jetée et wow plusieurs dizaines de poissons magnifiques font apparition.
Après ça, c’est l’heure du retour. Le vent nous est toujours favorable pas comme le ciel qui s’assombrit à mesure que nous approchons de notre point de d’arrivée… On débarque sous une petite pluie fine et froide pas très agréable. Mais au final, on a quand même eu de la chance car, sans ça, tout le voyage s’est fait au sec 😁
For today, we organized a sailing trip on a catamaran to see Cathedral Cove. Not only to enjoy the good New Zealand wind but also to simply be able to see this cave! Yes, once again the torrential rains of the last few months are messing with our plans as the pedestrian access path leading to this attraction is totally destroyed and Cathedral Cove is therefore only visible from the sea.
We have to be at the boat at 12:00 so we take the opportunity to make a quick detour to a viewpoint overlooking a superb bay. We see a few rain clouds pass over us, dropping a small drizzle. So far it’s bearable but we pray it won’t be worse once we’re on the water.
We then go around 12:00 to the departure beach. There, we find 10 other people with whom we will be on the boat. Then finally it is our 2 skippers who join us to embark on the boat using small inflatable boats. 2 round trips and we’re on our way!
There isn’t much wind at the start but once offshore you can finally enjoy sailing without the engines. We missed it 🥲. The cruise is very relaxed and we chat with a few passengers and one of the skippers. Mag’ even takes the helm for a while.
Then, finally, we arrive at Cathedral Cove! And it is very impressive! A huge arch under which it is in principle possible to walk at low tide but for us today, we will only see it from afar.
On the other hand, we are given the opportunity to jump into the water for a while to swim in the aquatic reserve in which we find ourselves. Mag’ decides to stay dry because the weather is still overcast and a bit chilly. But despite that, I jump into the water, am offered a mask and snorkel and a pool spaghetti. A little bit of food is thrown in the water and wow several dozen magnificent fish appear. So fun!
After that, it’s time to head back to shore. The wind remains favorable to us, not like the sky which darkens as we approach our point of arrival… We disembark under a light, cold and very unpleasant rain. But in the end, we were still lucky because, other than that, the whole trip was dry 😁
