Aujourd’hui le temps est magnifique ! Quelques nuages mais on a bon espoir que ça va se dégager pendant la journée.
Le plan du jour consiste simplement à monter vers Mueller Hut, réputée pour avoir une vue spectaculaire sur le Mt. Cook.
Mais la vue se mérite ! Il faut gravir un raide sentier couver sur sa première moitié de marches d’escaliers qui font brûler les cuisses. Heureusement, on est en mode léger avec juste un sac qu’on se partage avec Gijs contenant quelques snacks et nos lunchs.
Il nous faut quand même un peu plus de 2h pour arriver au petit col et premier point de vue majestueux sur le Mt. Cook. On y fait une petite et de nombreuses photos avant de continuer l’ascension maintenant moins sévère jusqu’à la hut.
Lorsqu’on y arrive, deux Keas sont les stars du moment en faisant les pitres 😂. Mais ils sont toujours aussi beaux à voir.
On prend notre lunch et on fait un peu la sieste au soleil tout en profitant de la vue avec les nuages qui se dégagent enfin pour nous offrir cette vue imprenable sur le plus haut sommet de Nouvelle-Zélande. D’ailleurs, alors qu’on admire la vue, un gars s’assied pas loin de nous et se met a dessiner le panorama devant nous yeux et son dessin est superbe.
Vers 15:00, on se décide à gentiment faire demi tour pour rentrer au camp. Pendant la descente, on est rattrapé par un couple de trail runners qu’on s’amuse à suivre de notre mieux. Et, à notre grande satisfaction, on tient le rythme ! On fini par courir en bas des escaliers avec eux presque jusqu’au camp 😂. Du coup, 1h20 plus tard, on est de retour à nos tentes ^^
Pris par la flemme de cuisiner, on prend la route pour le Mt. Cook village où on espère pouvoir y souper avec les dernières lumières de la journée illuminant les montagnes. Le repas n’est pas fou mais ça fait le plus grand bien 😁
Today the weather is wonderful! A few clouds but we are hopeful that they will clear up during the day.
Today’s plan is to simply hike up to Mueller Hut, renowned for having a spectacular view of Mt. Cook.
But you gotta earn that view ! You have to climb a steep path which is made of thigh-burning steps on its first half. Fortunately, we are in light mode with just a bag that we share with Gijs containing some snacks and our lunches.
We still need a little more than 2 hours to reach the small pass and the first majestic view of Mt. Cook. We take a small break and many photos there before continuing the now less severe ascent to the hut.
When we get there, two Keas are the stars of the moment clowning around 😂. But they are still so beautiful and fun to see.
We take our lunch in the hut and we take a nap in the sun while enjoying the view with the clouds finally clearing up to offer us this breathtaking view of the highest peak in New Zealand. Moreover, while we admire the view, a guy sits not far from us and begins to draw the panorama in front of us and his drawing is superb.
At around 3:00 p.m., we decide to slowly turn around to return to camp. During the descent, we are overtaken by a couple of trail runners that we have fun following as best we can. And, to our great satisfaction, we keep up the pace! We end up running down the stairs with them almost to camp 😂. So, 1h20 later, we are already back to our tents ^^
Being too lazy to cook ourselves, we hit the road to Mt. Cook village where we hope to be able to have dinner there with the last lights of the day illuminating the mountains. The meal is not crazy but it does the greatest good 😁
