On commence aujourd’hui à nouveau avec un réveil tardif 😁 La météo est mauvaise et on a pas grand chose de prévu aujourd’hui à part déménager. En effet, après deux nuits chez nos trail angels (ils ne prennent que des gens pour deux nuits max pour laisser aux autres une chance d’avoir une place), on change de logement pour passer notre dernière nuit à Wellington dans un hostel au centre ville.
Mais avant de partir, on profite rapidement de la machine à laver pour nettoyer nos vestes de pluie pour tenter de leur redonner un semblant d’imperméabilité en prévision de la superbe météo qui nous attend ces quelques prochains jours 😅
On quitte donc avec regret nos angels vers 12:00 pour prendre le bus vers le centre et notre hostel pour y déposer nos affaire en attendant de pouvoir check-in à 14:00.
On passe rapidement assouvir notre addiction au chai latte dans un café d’à côté avant de nous rendre au Te Papa Museum en compagnie de Roxann.
Ce musée contient une magnifique collection d’objets polynésiens et Maori, et nous en apprend un peu plus sur ces cultures passionnantes. Il y a aussi une exposition temporaire racontant l’histoire tragique d’une bataille interminable pendant la première guerre mondiale où une partie de l’armée néo-zélandaise fut impliquée. On suit le court de cette bataille en suivant la vie de plusieurs soldats y ayant participé. Un des “détails” marquant sont des sculptures géantes et ultra réalistes de ces soldats créées par Weta Workshop. Tout simplement bluffant !
On rentre ensuite à l’hostel pour préparer notre souper et nous coucher pas trop tard car demain, on doit se lever tôt pour aller visiter… Weta Workshop justement !!! 🥳
We start today again with a late wake up 😁 The weather is bad and we don’t have much planned today except to move. Indeed, after two nights with our trail angels (they only take people for two nights max to give others a chance to have a place), we change accommodation to spend our last night in Wellington in a hostel in the city center.
But before leaving, we quickly take advantage of the washing machine to clean our rain jackets to try to give them back a semblance of waterproofness in anticipation of the superb weather that awaits us over the next few days 😅
So we leave our angels with regret at around 12:00 p.m. to take the bus to the center and our hostel to drop off our things there while waiting for the check-in at 2:00 p.m.
We quickly satiate our chai latte addiction in a nearby cafe before heading to the Te Papa Museum meet back with Roxann.
This museum contains a magnificent collection of Polynesian and Maori objects, and teaches us a little bit more about these fascinating cultures. There is also a temporary exhibition telling the tragic story of an endless battle during the First World War where part of the New Zealand army was involved. We follow the course of this battle by following the lives of several soldiers who participated in it. One of the striking “details” are giant and ultra-realistic sculptures of these soldiers created by Weta Workshop. Simply stunning!
We then go back to the hostel to prepare our supper and go to bed not too late because tomorrow, we have to get up early to go visit… Weta Workshop !!! 🥳
