Te Araroa Day 44 – Un ennui à mourir | Bored out of our minds

Gary the rat’s campground – Ngaherenga campsite : 37.6km

J’essaie d’habitude de trouver des choses intéressantes à dire tous les jours mais aujourd’hui c’était vraiment sans grand intérêt.

Après un départ à 8:10 on se lance sur 25.3km de marche sur une route de gravier dans la campagne balayée par un fort vent mais sous le soleil malgré tout. On peut apercevoir brièvement le sommet enneigé du Mont Ruapehu qu’on ira voir de très près dans une dizaine de jours. On passe aussi à côté d’un enclos rempli à craquer de moutons qui, on suppose attendent d’être tondus.

Puis vers 14:30 on atteint une autoroute que nous suivons sur 7.8km avant de retourner sur du gravier pour les derniers 4.5km les plus long de notre vie tellement notre cerveau (et corps) est cuit par l’ennui du trajet. Pendant un temps j’avais même l’impression que j’allais m’endormir en marchant x). On essaie de se maintenir éveillé en écoutant des audiobooks et autres podcasts.

Vers 17:15 on arrive enfin au Ngaherenga Campsite qui se trouve au tout début du renommé Timber Trail que nous parcoureront demain.

I usually try to find interesting things to say every day but today was really uninteresting.

After a departure at 8:10 am we embark on a 25.3km walk on a gravel road in the countryside swept by a strong wind but under the sun despite everything. We can briefly see the snow-capped summit of Mount Ruapehu, which we will see very closely in about ten days. We also pass by a pen filled to the brim with sheep which, we suppose, are waiting to be shorn.

Then around 2:30 p.m. we reach a highway that we follow for 7.8km before returning to gravel for the last 4.5km, the longest of our lives because our brain (and body) is fried by the boredom of the journey. For a while I even felt like I was going to fall asleep while walking . We try to stay awake by listening to audiobooks and other podcasts.

Around 5:15 pm we finally arrive at the Ngaherenga Campsite which is at the very beginning of the renowned Timber Trail that we will walk on tomorrow.
