Ambury Regional Park Campground – Drury (Applaud B&B) : 42.1km
Réveil 6:30 comme d’hab. Le vent a soufflé non stop cette nuit. C’était pas mal bruyant mais on a quand même passé une assez bonne nuit. Le matelas était nickel bien que bien moins confortable que celui gonflable en réparation. Le soleil rayonne pour le moment mais le ciel est incertain avec quand même encore beaucoup de vent.
8:10 c’est parti pour 42km 😅. Une trentaine de minutes après notre départ on se prend évidemment une bonne averse pendant heureusement que 5 min. Toujours aussi frustrante cette météo. Mais heureusement ça fini par vraiment se dégager avec le vent de fou qui souffle.
Ce début de journée n’est pas encore trop mal. On est sur la côte avec un peu de végétation mais plus on s’approche de l’aéroport d’Auckland, plus ça devient industrialisé et bétonné.
Vers 10:40 on se fait une petite pause de 20min après 12km à un supermarché de l’aéroport pour un petit chai et brownie. À partir de là, on marche le long d’une grosse route. C’est génial.
13:45 pause lunch dans une zone industrielle au sud de l’aéroport. Oui, c’est encore super glamour…
14:50 on s’y remet. On a 12km à parcourir jusqu’au supermarché où on fera un full resupply. Peu de temps après, on passe par le Botanic Garden que nous avions visité il y a maintenant un mois !! Mais dans un coin du parc moins aménagé et qu’on avait pas vu la première fois..
Après encore 1h de marche, on passe à côté d’un petit shop au bord de la route qui vend des glaces en soft Ice. Parfait pour un Ice cream break ! C’est aussi la première fois qu’on goûte à une limonade locale de NZ : le L&P. Et qu’est-ce que c’est bon ! Surtout bien frais après une longue journée de marche sous le soleil 😊
On arrive enfin vers 19:15 au B&B où on va passer la nuit. Une fois sur place, on constate que l’aspect B&B n’est pas très visible. Il y a quelques cabines qu’il est apparemment possible de louer mais ça reste très basique. Pour ce qui est des TA hikers, le propriétaire offre le choix entre planter nos tentes dans son jardin ou de dormir dans d’autres cabines de fortune. Mag et moi nous nous retrouvons dans une petite caravane avec un gros matelas de lit double. C’est un peu cher pour ce que c’est mais bon, au moins on a droit à une douche chaude et notre tente sera sèche demain.
Wake up at 6:30 as usual. The wind blew non-stop this night. It was quite noisy but we still had a pretty good night. The mattress was perfect although much less comfortable than the inflatable one being repaired. The sun is shining for the moment but the sky is uncertain with still a lot of wind.
8:10 am we’re off for 42km 😅. About thirty minutes after our departure we are obviously on the receiving end of a good downpour but for fortunately only 5 min. This wether is always so frustrating. But fortunately it ended up really clearing up with the crazy wind blowing.
This start to the day is not so bad. We are on the coast with a nice vegetation but the closer we get to Auckland airport, the more it becomes industrialized and covered with concrete.
At around 10:40 am we take a short 20min break after 12km at a supermarket at the airport for a small chai and brownie. From there, we walk along a big road. It’s awesome…
13:45 lunch break in an industrial area south of the airport. Yes, it’s still super glamorous…
14:50 we get back to it. We have 12km to go to the supermarket where we will do a full resupply. Shortly after, we pass by the Botanic Garden that we had visited a month ago now!! But in a corner of the park less developed and that we had not seen the first time.
After another hour of walking, we pass by a small shop on the side of the road that sells soft ice cream. Perfect for an ice cream break! It is also the first time that we taste a local NZ lemonade: the L&P. And how good is it! Especially fresh after a long day of walking under the sun 😊
We finally arrive around 7:15 p.m. at the B&B where we will spend the night. Once there, we find that the B&B aspect is not very visible. There are a few cabins that are apparently possible to rent but it is still very basic. As for TA hikers, the owner offers the choice between pitching our tents in his garden or sleeping in other makeshift cabins. Mag and I find ourselves in a small trailer with a big double bed mattress. It’s a bit pricey for what it is but hey, at least we get a hot shower and our tent will be dry tomorrow.
